ENGLISH RIDING LESSONS
Lessons at Indian Summer Farm are taught in our indoor or outdoor arena. We teach natural horse
management skills and riding for fun or show.
Students may become independent enough to learn to ride outside the arena on our extensive farm lanes. Lessons are private or semi
private and include fifteen minutes of grooming and tacking up time and 45 minutes working on and riding the horse.
Our lesson horses are Morgan and part Morgan horses and a couple of their friends.

At our annual summer horse
days, young people learn responsible horsemanship, beginning with the basics
of moving safely around the horse, all the way up to riding. They learn
equine care and management, focusing on the knowledge necessary so that one day
they may have the joy and responsibility of
owning their own horse.
We have been providing
riding lessons for youngsters for over 30 years. Some campers take this opportunity to work on their Girl Scout Horse badges.
All the
forms you need, as well as directions to the
farm, can be found in the blue box above the map
on this page.

FORTRAN'S PRINCE
(Caduceus Fortran x Oak Acres Trixie)
1988 chestnut Morgan gelding
Prince is an spunky chestnut Morgan gelding. He is a wonderful horse and enjoyable to ride no matter what experience
level you may be. He will always be the first to come up from the
pasture to nose your pocket for a treat. He's a friendly guy who loves to be spoiled.

 |
 |
ANNA
grade Morgan mare, foaled
approximately 1985
Anna is a cute little bay Morgan mare. She's extremely smart and just as stubborn, but she has a sweet side too. Anna is fun and
has more personality than any other horse I've met.
She's amusing and exasperating at the same time. She is entertaining and lots of fun to ride.
|
|
KELLY
1985 Paint mare
Kelly is without a doubt the friendliest horse I've ever met. She greets you every time you come into the barn, walk past her stall, enter her paddock,
or just about any other time she sees you. She lives on attention. Kelly is easy to ride and loves to please.
|
 |
 |
DOLLY
Morgan X Clydesdale, foaled 1988
Dolly is comparable to a giant teddy bear. She is a chestnut Morgan/Clydesdale cross. She's big, but don't let that intimidate you.
Dolly is very laid back and friendly.
She's extremely fun to ride. She has a smooth gait and a steady walk that never falters. |
|
INDIAN SUMMER SILHOUETTE
(Irish Ebony x Indian Summer Starlite)
2000 black Morgan mare
Silhouette (Sil) is an absolutely stunning, black, Morgan mare. She parades around with an
"I am Queen of the World" attitude. She's gorgeous and she knows it, but she has a gentle side to her too.
Sil is an extremely smooth ride at any gait and has the potential to take you anywhere.

|
 |
INDIAN SUMMER ECLIPSE
(Irish Ebony x Indiansummer Fancy)
2001 black Morgan gelding
Eclipse (Clipper) is the pal a rider looks for throughout their horse experience. A little bit of Walter Farley's
Black Stallion, a little bit like Misty of Chincoteague. He is
a grandson of my favorite mare Pixie's Sunshine 024563. Indian
Summer Farm has been very fortunate to have a family of these wonderful mounts to raise under our farm name.
Clipper can
collect into a powerful bridled thundercloud, or carry a child safely.

Hello, my name is Kelly, and I am one of the elite lesson horses out at Indian Summer Farm. Do you know where that is? Well, I’ve heard my owners (Cheryl and Neil Kibler) say that it is located at 5098 Oakridge Road, Neenah, Wisconsin. |

|
 |
A lesson horse has a very important job. I must admit I am very good at teaching these humans how to ride.
The regular lesson days are fun, but the ones I enjoy the most are the Horse Lover’s Day lessons. These lessons
take place in the summer. Ahhh, yes, three glorious mornings of being, brushed, scratched, ridden, and loved.
Those little people are pretty good at the scratching part.
|
 |
Last summer when I saw those Horse Lovers pile out of the car, I was ecstatic. I knew those hands were going to give me some good scratching and nice pats.
I watched the kids pile out of the car, and mom along with them. Applying their last bit of sunscreen I noticed their shoes were different than mine. They also
wore pants and a hat. I sure am lucky I don't have to wear pants or a hat. I do wear a saddle and bridle, not a hat, and I think those boots and pants can help the little riders stay put on my back. |

Before we had our first lesson the little people ran inside to the studio.

They must have learned some cool facts about us horses. When they came back they were all talking about things I already knew about myself.
Two of the more advanced riders here at Indian Summer Farm are named Isabelle and Savannah. Isabelle demonstrated with her horse Monty (Blue Moon Morgan’s Moon Storm).
I helped Savannah demonstrate three gaits; walk, trot, and canter.
My least favorite is the walk… BORING, but I do it anyway. I’ve got to walk with my riders to help them feel safe.
I've been called a babysitter horse, and safety is number one priority. When Savannah was done riding, Isabelle showed everyone how to brush my coat.

I am one of many lesson horses. The others are: Anna, Prince, Dolly, Sil, Clipper, and Lila. Anna and I must rock because we got all the attention.
There were five riders that came for those three mornings. Anna taught Dana and Evan how to do warm up exercises.

A cute little girl named Alina rode me, and I think she was learning how to turn.
|
 |
Rachel rode, but she had to wait her turn.
Yup, these were real horse lovers because they listened to every word Cheryl told them all three mornings.
|

Savannah even taught them how to muck out a stall.
| The last day I had to share with Dolly. Dolly is a bigger horse and can pull a cart. |
 |
Rebecca drove Dolly and everyone enjoyed the ride. It was a great way to end the fun filled mornings we had together.
